What is something that would surprise me about you?
Growing up, I always thought I would become a journalist. I bet my search for truthfulness with accuracy and objectivity informs the way I approach the yoga teachings.

What can I expect from your class?
I always say that in my class we approach the poses in such a way that you’ll “know them before you flow them.” In my class, you can expect to engage the poses with time to breathe and with the aim of creating structural integrity and mindful awareness. I lean heavily on the brilliance of props and hands-on assists to facilitate learning and healthy habit formation. My class is usually set to music, and you can expect to rise up from savasana feeling grounded, stable, and strong.

What is the most essential part of practice for you?
This is such a great question! I would be remiss not to mention the yoga asana as an essential entry point – I certainly wouldn’t have found yoga if it weren’t for the physical shapes and their profound effect on my well-being. That said, the most essential part of the practice for me currently is the opportunity I get every time I come to my mat to also come back to myself for a while. Said another way, yoga gives me the chance to feel a little bit more whole.

Steven Andrew is a yoga and meditation teacher hailing from Chicago with a passion for creating safe spaces. His alignment-based approach to yoga and meditation instruction fosters safety and efficiency within the poses, so that you feel held, supported, and steady enough to explore what else is possible.

In his own sadhana (daily practice), Steven prefers to take it slow, favoring Hatha, Iyengar, Yin, or Restorative yoga practices. He meditates daily, reads voraciously, and tries to love as large as his teacher and mentor, Maty Ezraty.
