OUR STORY

2020 was a pivotal year. So much of what we’d hidden away or ignored came rushing back into consciousness. The profound silence of that year created space for us to actually start to hear.

As things were changing inside of us, the world around us was changing, too. So much of our local community had been decimated; major San Francisco yoga institutions had shuttered for good. All of us could feel the void left by these community pillars. We craved a space to simply exist — and breathe — together.

It seemed that the universe was compelling us to take a step back, open our eyes, and reflect on the kind of world we wanted to create when we reemerged. Even through my own depression, I saw that silver lining.

I imagined when it was safe to gather again, I would welcome students into my living room to practice in a space that was comfortable and safe, and, most importantly, communal. But, as time unfolded, I realized this dream was so much bigger than what my apartment living room could contain. HAUM was born as a way for us to transition into a new future — together.

Our Mission studio opened its doors in July 2021, and we could immediately feel the warmth and excitement of communal practice. One year later, our Haight-Ashbury location welcomed its first guests. We are immensely honored to be part of and serve these vibrant historic communities.

HAUM is a welcoming space for intentional practice — we offer classes, meditation, workshops, and training. More than anything, HAUM exists so that all of us can connect with ourselves, with our community, and to ideas and experiences that bring us closer to our inner knowing.

At HAUM, we believe everyone deserves to experience the transformational journey of coming home to who they truly are. That’s where the magic happens.

HAUM is my offering to our community to connect with each other again.

Welcome home.

OUR BELIEFS

Home is a state of being.

Yoga is many things. Yoga can be functional. Yoga can be fun. Yoga can also be a vehicle for self-awareness. It is through awareness that we discover our essence, our superpowers and our strength. Yoga helps us come home to ourselves again and again.

Home is built on the connection to ourselves and to each other.

You know that feeling when you meet someone for the first time, yet you feel like you’ve known them for years? That’s your soul talking. We sincerely hope that HAUM is a space where friendships are created and relationships are deepened. We foster an environment of inclusiveness, where everyone is welcome to be exactly who they are.

We take care of our teachers.

We didn’t open HAUM with the intention of running a business or making a profit. HAUM exists to support our students’ practice and the exceptional teachers who make it possible. We give our teachers space and freedom to do their thing, and we pay them what they deserve. It may seem simple, but it takes true dedication to make this happen.

We believe in and support our local community.

HAUM is authentically San Francisco. We are a local, LGBTQ+ owned and operated business, and we are committed to serving the Mission. In addition to hosting charity yoga events to support the underserved, we work with the local community to identify ways to make a positive impact in the neighborhood.

We believe inner wisdom starts with education.

Our teachers are dedicated to the practice, apply it in their lives and share what they learn openly and honestly. We believe in being both the seeker and the sage. HAUM offers unparalleled yoga education through trainings and workshops, so we can all ultimately connect more clearly to our inner knowing.
